Intervals of color mismatch in chromaticity coordinates and in cone‐fundamental‐based ( <scp>LMS</scp> ) space

We discuss the uncertainties in chromaticity coordinates color matching experiment reported by MacAdam (Journal of Optical Society America, 1942). also derive cone-pigments based excitation space. The observer made matchings tuning angle a Rochon prism. intervals mismatch were obtained using average value and SD settings. use this work rigorous statistical method to probability density functions (PDFs) assuming Gaussian distribution for prism angle. PDFs L-, M-, S- tristimulus values. analyze how much actual deviate from Gaussian. Finally, we determine bounds that areas tails each PDF are equal. so derived compared those original investigation due MacAdam. show color-differences certain confidence level cannot be as simple common scaling factor differences computed lower level. results LMS space at corneal exhibit asymmetries between increment decrement thresholds.
